Old brass hookah smells like metal?
I just recently bought a hookah. It has some ash “stains” on the ash tray, and the metal that the stem is made out of smells basically like.. metal. A friend of mine says it’s a brass hookah, but I just wanted to check to see if anybody has any knowledge of such a hookah? And if it’s possible to remove the ash stains on the tray. Also, how do I remove the smell of “metal” on the hookah stem? Answers greatly appreciated.
Okay, the stains. Go to practically any grocery store and go get something called Bar Keeper’s Friend.
It’s a cleaning powder for… well a whole bunch of crap. Works great on brass and stainless Ash Trays.
Clean my Coal carrier once a month. Thing looks brand new after I clean it.
Well if it’s truly brass and hasn’t been well cared for there might be some oxidation, won’t hurt you, but it does taste awful.

Then Fill up your bathtub with hot water and a tablespoon or so of Dawn Liquid Soap. Let that bad boy soak for an hour, the scrub the crap out of it.
Be sure to rinse it thoroughly a couple times, then use the brushes to really clean out any residue between rinsings and you should be good.
Cleaning after every time you smoke should prevent you from ever having to do a massive scrub down again.
